Over 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

At least three goals were scored in Milan’s last five home Serie A games of last season and also in three of Torino’s last four away fixtures of 2023-24. The coaching changes may shake things up a little, but the evidence of AC Milan’s pre-season games, which included wins over Real Madrid and Manchester City, suggests they are still good for goals.

AC Milan 2-1

Reason for tip

AC Milan have enough attacking talent to bag a couple at home to Torino, who conceded two at the San Siro to Inter and three at Atalanta’s stadium during last season’s run-in. The Granata should be able to score against a Milan side that shipped seven in their last three home games wth a 2-1 Milan win looking like it could be on the cards.

AC Milan vs Torino Predictions

  • At least three goals were scored in Milan’s last five home Serie A games of last season

  • AC Milan have impressed in pre-season with wins over Real Madrid and Manchester City

Fonseca raises Rossoneri’s expectations

Saturday’s season-opener at the San Siro brings together two clubs working under new coaches with very different aspirations for the upcoming season.

AC Milan have raised expectations among the Rossoneri fan base after an impressive pre-season campaign in which they beat Manchester City and Real Madrid on tour in the US and held their own against Barcelona.

The decision to replace Stefano Pioli with Paulo Fonesca already looks like a good one with Milan moving through the gears nicely in beating Monza 3-1 last week too.

Torino can exploit any leaks in defence

Torino’s preparation has been less spectacular as they adjust to life under new coach Paulo Vanoli. The Granata were a defensive side under his predecessor Ivan Juric, which earned them 18 clean sheets last term and enough points for a mid-table finish.

Whether Vanoli takes them in a different direction remains to be seen, but this is perhaps not the game to attempt too much expensive football. Milan were terrific at home at times last season, but conceded too many goals during the run-in. They shipped three apiece at home to Genoa and Salernitana, so it would be no surprise to see Torino score at some point.

Backing over 2.5 goals offers greater rewards than taking the Rossoneri in the match result market and given Milan’s last five home league games featured 24 goals at an average of almost five per match, it looks like a safer play too even after factoring in the change of coach.
