Adelaide United vs Western Sydney Wanderers Predictions

Adelaide United haven’t defended their Hyundai A-League double in the way they would have wanted, and Saturday sees their domestic season draw to a close with no hope of making the playoffs and their only goal at the moment being to avoid the bottom spot.

They have upped their game towards the end of the season despite spending the majority of the campaign at the bottom of the league, and in midweek they managed a 3-1 win at Jeju United in the Asian Champions League to take them up to 2nd in their group with two games remaining. There is just a point between them and the bottom spot though, so they have a battle on their hands in the coming month or so.

Last weekend saw them lose 1-0 at Melbourne City, and with their midweek victory they have now won three, drawn three, and lost one of their last seven games in all competitions. This puts them 9th in the table, only ahead of bottom of the table Newcastle Jets on goal difference.

Western Sydney Wanderers spot in the playoffs was tied up last week with a goalless draw at home to Melbourne Victory, leaving them five points clear of 7th placed Wellington Phoenix with just three left to play for.

They are also still in the Asian Champions League but with three defeats in their four group games so far they find themselves six points adrift of the qualification positions and very likely to go out after the remaining two group games.

In the league they are now unbeaten in five games though and have won three times in this period, and away from home they have won two, drawn three, and lost three of their last eight in the league.

Adelaide United, meanwhile, have won three, drawn two, and lost one of their last six home league games, scoring in five of them but only keeping one clean sheet in the process. The visitors have scored in six of their last nine on the road but only kept two clean sheets as well, with five of them ending with at least three goals scored. Four of Adelaide United’s last six home games have seen at least three goals too, so odds of 8/11 for Over 2.5 Goals and Both Teams to Score look good value for money. I’m backing that along with a 2-1 win for Western Sydney Wanderers at 8/1 for my correct score predictions.
