Ajax and Galatasaray meet in what should be an entertaining Europa League tie in the final round of league phase games on Thursday.

A place in the play-off round is the best Ajax can hope for and it would take a remarkable set of results to see them eliminated. A win would probably see Gala finish in the top eight and take a last 16 spot, but as it stands they are heading for the play-offs as well.

Incredibly, the Turkish side haven’t lost in any competition since August but at the current prices I’m willing to take a risk on Ajax, with the other option of both teams to score offering little value.

Ajax need a result to ensure they avoid an early exit and they have been excellent at home, winning 11 of their last 13 at the Amsterdam Arena and only losing to league phase table toppers Lazio in this competition.

Gala have drawn all three of their trips in Europe and this is probably their toughest assignment of the lot, so an Ajax win has appeal here.

I’m going for a 2-1 home win as both teams have scored in Galatasaray’s last six away games across all competitions and in all three of their European trips. The visitors have also conceded exactly twice in two of their three away games in this competition, including at Ajax’s domestic rivals AZ Alkmaar, and the home side have scored exactly twice in five of their last seven games.

Visiting forward Victor Osimhen can strike in defeat for Gala as he comes into the game in red hot form. The former Napoli man has four goals in five games in Europe this term and has scored in each of his last three appearances in all competitions.
