Argentina vs Canada Predictions

  • Argentina have won their two previous meetings with Canada 2-0 and 5-0
  • Canada have failed to score in four of their last six matches in all competitions
  • Argentina have lost two of their last 60 matches in all competitions
  • Lautaro Martinez has scored four goals in four matches at this Copa America

Albiceleste a tough nut to crack

Argentina remain a formidable force in international football and the reigning Copa America and world champions look set to book their place in another final.

They have eased their way to the semi-final stage of this tournament and our prediction is for the Albiceleste to secure their place in next week’s decider at the Hard Rock Stadium with the minimum of fuss.

Things didn’t go their way in the quarter-finals as a late Ecuador equaliser forced a penalty shootout, but Aston Villa keeper Emi Martinez was once again the hero, making two crucial saves to send his side though to the final four.

The 1-1 draw was the first time Argentina had conceded in four matches at these finals, and we predict another win and clean sheet for the defending champions.

Similar outcome looks likely

Canada offered little resistance on matchday one, as they fell to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of the Copa holders and we predict another 2-0 win for Lionel Messi and co.

The Canucks had just two shots on target against their illustrious rivals, who remain extremely solid at the back.

Lionel Scaloni’s world champions are tough to break down and five of their last six matches in all competitions have featured two goals or fewer.

Getting their noses in front may be enough to see of the Canadians and they are unlikely to go for the jugular with the final still to come.

A 2-0 score-line is our prediction for this semi-final showdown.

More to come from Martinez

Lautaro Martinez is the leading scorer at this Copa America and he will be desperate to add to his four-goal haul.

Martinez has already led Inter Milan to Serie A glory this season and another Copa title will be the icing on the cake.

The 26-year-old bagged in all three group games for the Albiceleste and has had seven shots on target in these finals.

Lautaro is in a rich vein of form and, although withdrawn early in the win over Ecuador, should get the opportunity to fire his side into the final on Wednesday. We predict another goal for the in-form hitman who often rises to the big occasion.
