Goals on the cards in Madrid

Over 2.5 goals is the bet when Atletico Madrid host Celta Vigo in the Primera Liga on Saturday. Celta’s recent games have been high-scoring affairs, as they demonstrated in their 3-2 win over Real Betis last weekend.

Atletico Madrid are ten places above Celta Vigo in the table, with the two sides separated by 21 points. Atletico are second with 14 wins, seven draws and two losses, while Celta sit 12th having won eight, drawn four and lost 11 of their 23 games.

Celta Vigo’s recent Primera Liga form has been inconclusive, with two wins, one draw and three defeats in their last six games. They have lost five of their last seven away games in the league and have failed to win any of their last seven on the road. 

Atletico Madrid have won seven of the last nine at home to Celta Vigo and punters might want to consider backing the hosts to win in a game with three or goals.

Celta Vigo’s win over Betis on Saturday to end a four-game winless run in the Primera Liga. Celta, who were priced at 13/10 to win the game, have won three of the 16 games this season in which they’ve shipped the first goal (19%). This was their fourth Primera Liga game in five with over 2.5 goals.

Both teams have been struggling defensively, which bodes well for goals. Atletico Madrid have failed to keep a clean sheet in four of their last six league games, while Celta Vigo have shipped 37 goals this season – the third worst record in the division. Celta have not kept a shutout in five games.

Both teams have been scoring regularly. Atletico Madrid have netted 23 goals in their 12 home games this season, while Celta Vigo have scored in six in a row, including a 3-2 win over Real Betis on Saturday. Celta have scored in 14 of their last 16 league games.

Atletico Madrid have been winners in eight of their last ten home league games and may be able to edge out Celta Vigo, with a 2-1 home win the correct-score pick. Two of Celta’s last three away games have ended in 2-1 defeats.
