Celta Vigo +2

Reason for tip

Barcelona have failed to win six of their last 10 home La Liga matches by more than a goal. They could struggle to overcome a Celta Vigo side that has lost only one of their last six away La Liga matches and only of their last 10 road trips by more than one goal. Also, Celta have covered a +2 handicap on three of their last four La Liga trips to Barcelona.

Barcelona 2-1

Reason for tip

Barcelona have the capacity to score lots of goals if they get on top, but Celta have stopped some very good teams like Atletico Madrid from mauling them on the road. They have scored in their last seven away La Liga games, but never more than once in either of the trips to top-four sides they have faced. Barca can edge this one 2-1.

Flick finds plenty at fault in Dortmund

Barcelona are the hot favourites to beat Celta Vigo and maintain, or potentially increase, their lead at the top of La Liga this weekend. The Blaugrana are four points clear of Real Madrid entering the final straight and have just been given a warning about what can happen when they take their foot off the gas.

That appears to have been their undoing at Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday when they allowed Borussia Dortmund to entertain thoughts of a remontada that would have been as good as any perpetrated on or by Barca in recent years.

Hansi Flick gave his side a stern lecture at half-time but they lost the battle in the second period too, eventually going through 5-3 on aggregate after a 3-1 defeat in 90 minutes. Another display like that would give Celta Vigo a shot at avoiding defeat in Saturday afternoon’s clash.

Celta can be capable on the road

Claudio Giraldez’s side are capable road performers, having lost only one of their last six away league games. They held Atlético Madrid to a 1-1 draw at the Metropolitano in February and deservedly won their last away game at Mallorca 2-1.

Barca may well find a way to beat them with all the quality they have got, but it is certain to be tough for them coming off a midweek Champions League away game and such a poor result. Flick’s team have struggled off the back of their European exploits at times this season and lost 1-0 at home to lowly Leganes a few days after their last trip to Dortmund in the League phase.

Given Giraldez’s side have rarely been outclasssed on their travels this term, the recommendation here is to back them on a +2 handicap, which would have landed in nine of their last 10 road trips and three of their last four visits to Barca’s permanent or temporary homes.
