Barnsley vs Bristol City Predictions

  • Barnsley have not lost any of their last four home league games (Won 2, Drawn 2).
  • Bristol City have failed to win 11 of their last 12 away league matches (Drawn 2, Lost 9).
  • Barnsley have failed to keep a clean sheet in eight of their last ten home league games.
  • Bristol City have conceded at least two goals in 12 of their last 13 league games on the road.

No faith in Robins to steal another win on the road

Bristol City regained that long lost winning feeling away from home on Saturday when they beat Blackburn, but there was enough evidence at Ewood Park to suggest they are yet to truly turn a corner.

Nigel Pearson’s side had lost nine of their previous 11 league road trips and drawn the other two so when Rovers, who had already hit the crossbar, won a second-half penalty to break the deadlock it looked like a familiar story was about to play out. Bradley Dack missed the spot-kick and Andreas Weimann buried a stoppage-time effort to steal all three points – a remarkable achievement given City had failed to surpass 0.5 xG for the second asway game in a row.

The Robins still don’t look like even an average Championship team away from Ashton Gate and it might take something better than their usual level of performance to overcome a Barnsley side that have started to show a bit of fight.

Tykes should be taken seriously

The Tykes have won two and drawn two of their last four Championship home games, taking points off three of the current top eight in the table. Poya Asbaghi’s side have shown some quality as well as resilience, although they have tended to fall deeper and deeper when defending their leads, which has led to some frantic final moments.

However, we doubt whether Bristol City can force them to drop as deep as Stoke and Fulham did before they both grabbed very late equalisers and feel that fundamentally, Barnsley are a team to be taken seriously again.

The oddsmakers also favour the hosts to the tune of making them around 7/5 for the home win – the shortest price they have been for a league game since November. It’s not ideal, but we are not enamoured with Bristol City’s prospects of pulling off another smash and grab raid, so a draw no bet option looks like the best way in.

Barnsley have not lost any of their last four home league games while the Robins have failed to win 11 of their last 12 away league matches. We will take a 2-1 home win in correct score betting too because Barnsley have failed to keep a clean sheet in eight of their last ten home league games and City have conceded at least two goals in 12 of their last 13 league games on the road.
