Bayern Munich to Win and Over 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Bayern Munich have won four of their last five games, scoring at least three goals each time. They cannot afford to drop any more points and should have too much quality for a Benfica side that lost on the road at Inter and Real Sociedad last season.

Bayern Munich 3-1

Reason for tip

Bayern have scored three or more goals in five of their last six matches, but they have conceded a few goals recently – including four in the defeat against Barcelona last month. Benfica have the quality to get on the scoresheet but Bayern’s energy and intensity at home should see them home by a 3-1 scoreline.

Kingsley Coman To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Kingsley Coman is back in the Bayern team and back among the goals. The former Champions League-winning scorer has registered in three of his last six appearances.

Bayern Munich vs Benfica Predictions

  • Bayern Munich have won four of their last five games, scoring at least three goals each time
  • But they did lose 4-1 at Barcelona during that run to make it back-to-back Champions League losses this season
  • After wins over Crvena Zvezda and Atletico Madrid, Benfica were beaten 3-1 at home by Feyenoord on matchday three

Bayern must learn the lessons of Barcelona beating

Bayern Munich have left themselves little room for error after back-to-back Champions League letdowns but the Bundesliga leaders should pick up all three points when Benfica visit Allianz Arena on Wednesday.

Last month’s 4-1 loss at Barcelona, which was more of a dismembering than a defeat, will serve as a warning for later in the competition. But, for now, Vincent Kompany’s side have all the tools to accumulate the points they need from upcoming games against Benfica, PSG, Shakhtar Donetsk, Feyenoord and Slovan Bratislava.

After all, it is only a couple of moths ago that the Bavarians eviscerated Dinamo Zagreb 9-1 at home and the goals have continued to flow when they have faced fellow Bundesliga teams recently.

Farense win was nothing like Benfica’s task in Bavaria

Few teams can emulate Barcelona’s style or form right now and Benfica are certainly not one of them. They have picked up six points from an away win in Belgrade and a home success against a woeful Atletico Madrid, but beating Bayern is another matter.

Bruno Lage’s side edged to a 2-1 win at Farense on Saturday in preparation for this trip, but they are going to be forced to defend for long spells — unlike most of the matches they face in their domestic scene.

Backing Bayern to win with at least three goals in the game seems like a fair summation of how the game should go with Benfica capable of getting a goal on the road if they play as smartly as they did against Diego Simeone’s side.
