Bayern Munich vs Eintracht Frankfurt Predictions
Bayern Munich looked in perfect shape to go for an unprecedented second treble, with the Bundesliga title and a place in the DFB Pokal final already locked up. However, Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final at home to Real Madrid didn’t go as planned – Real came from behind to beat the Bavarians for a sixth straight time. No doubt Bayern’s focus will remain on next Tuesday’s second leg fixture in Madrid, so expect continued squad rotation from coach Jupp Heynckes this weekend – the in-form Sandro Wagner should start up front, with names like Juan Bernat, Thiago and Thomas Muller supporting.
Eintracht Frankfurt’s poor Bundesliga form continued with a 3-0 defeat at home to Hertha Berlin last weekend, though their fans can’t be too upset given what happened earlier that week. Eintracht surprised many by beating Schalke last Wednesday to seal their place in the DFB Pokal final, where coach Niko Kovac will face his future employers, Bayern Munich. While Frankfurt still have some interest in the league – The Eagles are just one point outside the top six before the weekend – coach Kovac will no doubt travel to the Allianz Arena with low expectations, and likely see this as an opportunity to examine Bayern Munich tactics ahead of the more crucial cup final.
In terms of betting, with this being one of the strongest Bayern Munich sides in years, it’s difficult to see anything other than the champions getting the job done. Even when the Bavarians fielded a second-string starting XI at home to Borussia Monchengladbach last time out at the Allianz Arena, the champions dominated all over the pitch, taking away a huge 5-1 win. Unsurprisingly, Bayern hold the strongest home record in the league too (W13 D2 L0), scoring an average of 3.4 goals per game in front of the home fans – in fact, Bayern Munich have scored four goals or more in five of their last seven home matches. And with the Bavarians unbeaten in 13 games against Eintracht Frankfurt too, you have to say that history is on their side.
It would be an understatement to say that Frankfurt’s form has taken a tumble, and the side that gave teams like RB Leipzig (a 2-1 win) and Borussia Monchengladbach (a 2-0 win) a run for their money earlier this year is now losing to teams as weak as Werder Bremen and Hertha Berlin. Kovac’s men have lacked that same composure at the back and their once stellar away record – Frankfurt lost just one of their opening ten away matches (W6 D3 L1) – is now non-existent. Frankfurt have lost all of the last five on the road, conceding an average of 2.6 goals per match. And with Frankfurt missing a few key players (see team news) ahead of one of the toughest fixtures of the season, it should prove difficult for them to keep Bayern Munich at bay. Our prediction: a 4-1 Bayern Munich win.
