Bayern Munich vs Villarreal Predictions
- Bayern have won 12 of their last 14 home games, beating a -1 handicap in seven of those victories.
- Bayern average five goals-per-game at home in the Champions League.
- Villarreal have lost three of their last four away from home and failed to score in all of those losses.
- Leroy Sane has scored six goals in nine Champions League appearances.
Bayern bid to overturn deficit
Villarreal stunned Bayern Munich in the first leg at El Madrigal as they claimed a 1-0 win but they still face a huge challenge if they are to reach the last four.
Bayern were unlucky not to at least manage a draw in Spain as they managed 21 attempts on goal to Villarreal’s 11, while the La Liga club managed to score with their only shot on target.
Bayern can make most of home advantage
Bayern have been superb at home in Europe this season, winning all four of their Champions League games at the Allianz Arena.
The German giants have scored an astonishing 20 goals across their four home games in this competition, conceding just three, and all of those wins have been by at least three-goal margins.
Bayern have won 12 of their last 14 home games across all competitions, losing just once, and seven of those wins have been by two or more goals, so a win for Bayern with a -1 handicap looks a good option for the main bet.
Bayern can win in style
Villarreal have enjoyed an incredible run in the Champions League and they won 3-0 at Juventus in the previous round, but I’m expecting Bayern to end their challenge in convincing fashion on Tuesday.
The Bundesliga outfit have scored at least five goals in three of their four Champions League home games and exactly five twice – and a bold play on a 5-0 win for the hosts looks a reasonable option in the correct score market.
Villarreal will almost certainly approach this game with a defensive mindset and try to keep hold of the advantage they already have, hitting Bayern on the counter whenever possible, but it is hard to see them holding out for too long in Munich. If the hosts are able to get an early goal or two then the Spanish side will have to come forward, and that would lead to plenty of opportunities for Bayern.
Robert Lewandowski always appeals when it comes to possible goalscorers for Bayern but at a bigger price Leroy Sane stands out. Sane has been deadly in Europe this term with six goals and six assists in nine Champions League games, and he’s scored in all four of Bayern’s home games in the competition.
