Belarus vs Azerbaijan Predictions
- Six of Belarus’ last eight matches produced under 2.5 goals.
- Azerbaijan failed to score in each of their last three games.
- Belarus have lost their home advantage and this game will be played behind closed doors.
A battle of attrition in Serbia
Due to the ongoing geopolitical situation, Belarus have had to have this game moved to Novi Sad, Serbia, which will also be played behind closed doors. That loss of home advantage was shown in their Nations League opener, when falling by a 1-0 scoreline to Slovakia in front of an eerily quiet stadium.
While the lack of atmosphere may affect the Belarus players, low-scoring games have not been an abnormality even in normal circumstances. Evidently, six of their last eight internationals at any venue produced two or fewer goals, suggesting that we could yet see more of the same this time around.
Azerbaijan also fell to defeat in Kazakhstan on the opening day of the Nations League, suggesting that this could be a big game in terms of the battle to avoid relegation in this group. Moreover, that 2-0 defeat extended Azerbaijan’s run of Nations League away games that produced under 2.5 goals to four games!
Battling to avoid the drop
While it is still an early stage in this Nations League campaign, defeat for either side will leave them pointless at the bottom of the group with a third of the games played. As such, we think that this could be a cagey encounter that neither side wants to lose.
Such games often produce low scoring results, so we predict that the value lies within backing under 2.5 goals in this clash. As for the correct score, a tight 1-1 draw looks like a likely outcome in Serbia.
