Belenenses should be a pushover for Porto

Belenenses welcome FC Porto to Estadio do Restelo on Sunday night in a bottom versus top contest in the Primeira Liga.

Belenenses have lost six of their last seven games and have dropped three of their last five at home, so the long odds on the hosts look about right. Defensively, they have been better than almost all of their relegation rivals, but Filipe Cândido’s side have not scored anywhere near enough goals to stop the rot.

This colours our thinking when framing a Porto-positive wager because it seems foolish to expect B-SAD to contribute anything in terms of the overall goal expectation. Therefore, we’re shunning the Porto and overs options in favour of a straight handicap bet on the visitors to cover a -2 quote.

Dragons could thrash tail-enders

Porto are on a great run of form, winning nine of their last 10 games overall and their last 12 in the league. That has seen them open up a three-point lead over Sporting at the top and they will want to maintain that at all costs throughout the winter.

The Dragons have covered a -2 handicap in four of their last seven league games and three of their last four on the road so the odds here of around 11/8 do look generous. Even when ignoring B-SAD’s 7-0 home defeat to Benfica in November because of the peculiar circumstances surrounding the game, it seems only an uncharacteristically-dogged defensive display from Belenenses or a wasteful day in front of goal from Porto could probably prevent this one from landing.

A 3-0 correct score is favoured here as it replicates the result from two recent Porto away trips to clubs that are currently faring much better than Belenenses.
