Belgium vs Finland Predictions
Belgium know that this could be their chance. They have long been touted as the future of international football and have failed to impress as dark horses in the last few major competitions. However, the time for being a dark horse is over, the talent they have in their squad should be challenging for silverware.
The likes of Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku, Thibaut Courtois, Christian Benteke, Radja Nainggolan, and Toby Alderweireld all have the potential to be world class on their day. Germany haven’t looked at their best, Spain are seemingly in decline, Italy are looking very poor, and France have a tendency to implode. This could be Belgium’s year for success, and if they perform at their best the world number ones should be able to go deep in the competition.
Marc Wilmot’s side beat Switzerland on Friday to kickstart their preparations for the competiton, with Lukaku and De Bruyne proving their worth as the visiting Belgians came from a goal behind to win 2-1. This followed a defeat in Portugal back in March to make it seven wins and one defeat in their last eight games.
Finland are less impressive and less talented than their hosts. They finished 4th in the Euro 2016 qualifying group behind Northern Ireland, Romania, and Hungary and picked up just 12 points from the campaign.
They haven’t improved since the end of qualifying either, losing all four of their friendly matches and failing to score throughout. At the other end they have conceded 11 times, so times are tough for the Finnish.
The visitors have won just two of their last 11 games and lost seven times, and away from home they have lost five of their last eight. Belgium, on the other hand, are unbeaten since 2013 on home turf and have won nine of their 11 games since that 3-2 loss to Japan.
All seven of their home victories since their World Cup elimination have been by more than a single goal margin, whilst Finland have lost by more than a single goal margin in three of their last four matches. This makes odds of 19/20 for a Belgium -1 Handicap Win look excellent value for money, and I’m backing that along with a 3-0 correct score prediction at 7/1.
