Belgium 2-1

Reason for tip

Belgium have won five of their last seven internationals at home, scoring multiple goals in four. They have sprung some leaks at the back in recent times, however, which should encourage Ukraine. The visitors know that they can make things very tough for the Red Devils to overturn their advantage if they get a goal and have the confidence and cohesion to make that happen.

Red Devils need to rally

Belgium will be desperate to erase the embarrassing second-half display that sees them trail Ukraine 3-1 after the first leg of their playoff when the sides reconvene in Brussels on Sunday.

Three goals in 12 minutes turned the tie on its head in Murcia and undid some of the positive steps Belgium had made in their first match under new coach Rudi Garcia. The Red Devils have made life difficult for themselves now as they bid to avoid relegation from Nations League A for the first time.

Ukraine’s display showed how less reliant they are becoming on one or two players as some unsung heroes emerged from their ranks. Serhiy Rebrov’s side also have a penchant for a comeback, having turned the tide in six games on the coach’s watch.

Both teams can score in Brussels

Thursday’s game was only the third time that they had scored at least three goals under the former Dynamo Kyiv striker,  but they may need to get multiple goals again in Brussels.

Belgium have the attacking threats to cause major problems on home soil and, if they can avoid a couple of mistakes that led to Ukraine goals on Thursday, it could be game on if the Red Devils take the lead. However, now is probably not the time to be backing them at short odds because they have lost five of their last six games.

Both teams to score looks a better option at the odds given Ukraine have seen goals fly in at both ends in six of their last seven matches. Belgium have to come at them, so they should get chances to pick off a pretty mediocre defence if they remain patient.
