      Benevento vs Udinese Predictions

It took 17 attempts, but Benevento finally managed to win an away game in the Italian top flight last weekend. The Witches of the South managed to end that wait in some style too, as they claimed a 1-0 victory at San Siro against AC Milan – the summer’s biggest spending team. There was a massive gulf in resources between them, but the bottom side managed to make that irrelevant by winning in Milan. Following that huge win, Benevento were promptly brought back down to earth, as their relegation was confirmed.

Udinese had a hand in that, as their meek resistance saw Crotone claim three points and leave Benevento planning for a drop to Serie B. The Zebrette have been in awful form of late, kicking off one of the worst losing streaks in Serie A history. While they picked up plenty of points in a mid-season bounce after Massimo Oddo took over, they’ve now slumped in to an even worse position, leaving them in danger of meeting Benevento again next term.

Udinese had averaged one point-per-game under Luigi Delneri over the first 12 match-days of the season, while they’ve dropped to 0.95 per game in the ensuing 22 rounds under Massimo Oddo. There’s just four points between them and the drop, and a slip this weekend will make relegation a massive concern at the Dacia Arena, despite early dreams of Europe. A visit to Benevento is seen by many as the chance to turn around their 11 match losing streak, but with that kind of form behind them, do they really stand a chance here?

Udinese have collected only six points in the second half of this Serie A campaign, four fewer than any other side, while they’ve gone 12 matches without a victory. Meanwhile, Benevento are coming off a huge high, while they have nothing to fear in the closing games after their relegation was confirmed. Their spell in the top flight was always going to be short, but can they go out on a high?

Udinese have lost 21 games in this Serie A season, their worst record since 1961/62 (23 losses). This is a terrible run from the visitors, and they should not be favourites for this clash. We can’t understand why anyone would back the Zebrette right now, having lost 11 of 17 trips, claiming only five wins. There’s certainly a chance for Benevento this weekend, and we’re backing them on the double chance market.
