Makhtar Gueye to commit 3+ fouls
Gueye leads the way for Blackburn in terms of fouls this season, having committed 42. He makes 3.1 fouls per 90 minutes in the Championship this term and he’s committed three fouls or more in three of his previous four starts for Rovers.
Kaine Kesler-Hayden to commit 1+ fouls
Kesler-Hayden has committed a foul in five of his last six appearances for Preston. His tally of 17 isn’t huge, but with these two sides set to match-up with wing-backs, Kesler-Hayden should have a tough time against opposition number Ryan Hedges, who has drawn 33 fouls across 28 appearances this season.
Ryan Hedges to commit 2+ fouls
Hedges may be good at drawing fouls, but Kesler-Hayden has been fouled 40 times this season and he’s likely to draw a couple in an interesting battle down Blackburn’s left-flank. Welshman Hedges tends to make his fouls in bunches, so back him for a couple of fouls in an isolated battle out wide.
Stefan Thordarson to commit 1+ fouls
Icelandic midfielder Thordarson has been in and out of the Preston side, but he makes 1.3 fouls per 90 minutes for the visitors. He’s set to feature from the start here against Blackburn’s Lewis Travis and Adam Forshaw, who have drawn a combined 50 fouls this season. Thordarson has been booked in two of his previous four appearances, making five fouls in that time.
Blackburn Rovers vs Preston Predictions
- Just three of Blackburn’s last 14 games have featured more than two goals
- Only West Brom have drawn more games than Preston’s 13 in the Championship this season.
- Only two of Preston’s last 14 league matches have been settled by a margin greater than one goal
Rovers in danger of losing ground
There are a whole host of Championship teams who look set to battle it out for two playoff places in the next few months, and Blackburn have lost much of initiative in the chase after three straight defeats.
The 3-0 win over Portsmouth has been Rovers’ only success in their last nine league games, but it is questionable whether Preston will have enough to leave Ewood Park with the points even though North End appear to be trending in the opposite direction.
Lilywhites not great on the road
The Lilywhites have pushed up to 15th in what is always a highly competitive division and make the short trip with their confidence boosted by successive victories over Watford and Middlesbrough.
However, that victory at Vicarage Road, which came courtesy of two goals from Milutin Osmajic, was only their second win in 19 Championship away games.
They have drawn five of their last ten matches on the road and have finished level in 13 of their 29 games this term, so another stalemate would not be a surprise.
With Rovers’ games tending to feature few goals, correct-score punters may be pointed to a 1-1 final result.
