FSV Mainz 05 Double Chance (Win or Draw)

Reason for tip

On course for Champions League football, Mainz have been the surprise package in this season’s Bundesliga and they can make life tough for Borussia Dortmund. Mainz have been terrific on the road and are on a six-game unbeaten sequence, so they are worth a bet to secure at least a point from this contest.

Draw 1-1

Reason for tip

Borussia Dortmund have featured in four 1-1 draws since November 30 and that appeals in the correct-score betting with a tight game expected at the Signal Iduna Park.

Borussia Dortmund vs FSV Mainz 05 Predictions

  • Only Bayer Leverkusen (29) and Bayern Munich (28) have collected more Bundesliga points on the road than Mainz (23) this season
  • Mainz are unbeaten in six matches
  • Borussia Dortmund are without a clean sheet in four games

Dortmund fail to push on under Kovac

Niko Kovac has struggled to turn the tide at Borussia Dortmund since taking charge in February and the Black and Yellows could again be vulnerable at home to Mainz in the Bundesliga.

Dortmund have won just four of their ten matches under Kovac and two of those victories came in the Champions League.

They are on course to miss out on European football altogether – a disaster for the club – and their focus for the remainder of the season will be on their Champions League campaign.

Highflying Mainz can be testing opponents

They are therefore worth opposing in their Bundesliga clash with Mainz, who are up to the dizzy heights of third in the table with 13 wins to their name.

Bo Henriksen’s side have been especially good since returning from the winter break and they have won four of their last five games, beating Heidenheim, St Pauli, Leipzig and Borussia Monchengladbach.

The likes of Jonathan Burkardt, Nadiem Amiri and Paul Nebel have been in the goals for Mainz recently and they should avoid defeat at Signal Iduna Park, where Dortmund have a record of just seven wins in 13 games in the league this season.

Punters after a correct-score wager, however, might want to consider the draw.

Dortmund have featured in four 1-1 draws since November 30 and that looks the best pick.
