Shakhtar Donetsk Double Chance (Win or Draw)

Reason for tip

Borussia Dortmund have not won any of their five matches since the turn of the year and their defeat to Bologna on the last Champions League matchday prompted the sacking of Nuri Sahin. They could again slip up against a Shakhtar Donetsk side on the brink of elimination with little to play for.

Draw 1-1

Reason for tip

The draw seems a decent result pick for this game and 1-1 could be a good approach to the correct score market. Dortmund have drawn three matches 1-1 since the end of November and may again have to share the spoils.

Borussia Dortmund vs Shakhtar Donetsk Predictions

  • Borussia Dortmund are winless in their last five games
  • Shakhtar Donetsk have taken six points from their last four Champions League games
  • Dortmund have been involved in three 1-1 draws since November 30

Shakhtar may approach Dortmund clash as free hit

Clubs already eliminated from the Champions League – or likely to be  – may not put up much of a fight on the final matchday but if Shakhtar Donetsk turn up against Borussia Dortmund, there is a chance they could give their fans something to shout about.

Shakhtar started the final Champions League matchday in 27th spot and were the lowest team yet to be mathematically eliminated, so a spot in the knockout round playoffs seems unlikely.

That said, they defeated a strong Brest team 2-0 on matchday seven and will be determined to go out with a bang in their final league phase encounter.

Black and Yellows in downwards spiral

They can draw confidence from the fact their opponents Dortmund have been vulnerable of late, failing to win any of their five matches in 2025.

That run has featured defeats to Bayer Leverkusen, Holstein Kiel and Eintracht Frankfurt, while the 2-1 defeat to Bologna on matchday seven in the Champions League marked the end of Nuri Sahin’s tenure.

While they look for a new manager, under-19s boss Mike Tullberg has been in charge and they were frustrated in his first game, throwing away a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with Werder Bremen on Saturday.

Dortmund are well-placed to make the knockout round playoffs but they could be in for a difficult clash and Shakhtar are worth backing to avoid defeat, while the 1-1 draw makes an appeal in the correct score market.
