Over 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Before Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Bochum, Dortmund’s previous 10 had seen over 2.5 goals land on nine occasions. Sporting followed up last week’s 3-0 home loss to Dortmund with a 2-2 draw at home to Arouca. The visitors need to get forward to turn this tie around – and they had some joy against Dortmund before conceding the opener on the hour mark. However, Sporting have lost four of their last five in Europe, conceding 13 times.

Draw 2-2

Reason for tip

Dortmund have won once across their last seven at home, while there’s little need for them to turn that around given their 3-0 lead. These two look vulnerable at the back, so back them to trade goals in a high-scoring draw.

Serhou Guirassy To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Guirassy hasn’t quite clicked in the Bundesliga since his move from Stuttgart, but he’s thrived in Europe. The forward has more goals in nine Champions League appearances (10) than in his 19 league games so far. Guirassy has netted in five consecutive games in Europe, including a brace in their previous two at home.

Borussia Dortmund vs Sporting Lisbon Predictions

  • Over 2.5 goals has landed in nine of Dortmund’s last 11
  • Sporting have lost four of their last five in Europe, conceding 13 goals
  • The visitors slumped to a 2-2 draw with Arouca at the weekend, while Dortmund lost at Bochum

Can Sporting stage a comeback?

Sporting lost 3-0 at home to Dortmund in last week’s first-leg, which has left them with a mountain to climb in Germany on Wednesday night. However, last season’s finalists have been far from convincing of late, so the visitors should be able to cause them some problems.

Dortmund have won once across their previous seven at home, while they were beaten 2-0 at Bochum on Saturday. Defensive issues have haunted them of late and they went into the weekend with over 2.5 goals landing in nine of their previous 10.

However, Sporting will need to improve if they’re to impact this second leg. The Portuguese champions were solid in the reverse clash, but they crumbled in the last half-hour to slump to a heavy defeat. Sporting have now lost four of their five games in Europe since Ruben Amorim departed, conceding 13 times.

Serhou Guirassy took full advantage of their struggles last week and the forward has now scored in each of Dortmund’s last five European games. The former Stuttgart man has netted a brace in their previous two home games in the Champions League, so he’s a good anytime goalscorer bet against this struggling Sporting side.
