Over 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

At least three goals have been scored in seven of Borussia Mönchengladbach’s last eight league games. Meanwhile, at least three goals have been scored in seven of Mainz’s 11 Bundesliga away games this term. Both teams are among the most deadly in the Bundesliga for converting chances, which augurs well for a high-scoring affair.

FSV Mainz 05 3-2

Reason for tip

The Foals have been a bit hit and miss at home, so they could be vulnerable to a Mainz road win here. The 05ers have won two of their last three Bundesliga road trips and scored multiple goals in seven of their 11 away league games this term. A 3-2 road win could be possible with Mainz having hit three goals in five of those seven contests.

Tim Kleindienst To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Only Harry Kane and Omar Marmoush have scored more than Tim Kleindeinst’s 14 goals in the Bundesliga this term. He has scored in five of his last seven league appearances and bagged in the reverse fixture in Mainz earlier in the campaign.

Borussia Monchengladbach vs FSV Mainz 05 Predictions

  • Tim Kleindeinst has scored in five of his last seven Bundesliga appearances

Mainz are moving up

Mainz’s unexpected Champions League bid faces a major test on Friday when Bo Henriksen’s side travel to Borussia-Park to face in-form Borussia Monchengladbach. The Mainz squad are enjoying themselves at the moment and celebrated moving into fourth place in the Bundesliga standings by dancing in the streets at the local carnival on Monday.

Henriksen’s side have won three games in a row to move ahead of Freiburg and RB Leipzig, who they beat 2-1 at Red Bull Arena last weekend. They are relatively fresh and injury free at the moment, so this trip should hold few fears for them.

The Foals finished one place lower with one point fewer than Mainz last term, in 14th, so their recent resurgence is also a bit of a surprise. Gerardo Seoane’s side can jump into the top five with a win on Friday and their recent form, which includes four wins in their last six, means that cannot be ruled out either.

Kleindeinst can be relied upon for a goal

These two clubs are very closely matched in many ways and the underlying stats from their campaigns suggest there will be little between them here. Both teams have been outperforming many of their rivals when it comes to converting chances while each has been fortunate not to have been punished by their opponents’ wayward finishing.

With that in mind, it may be better to back goals rather than either of the teams to come out on top. At least three goals have been scored in all but one of Monchengladbach’s last eight games while the vast majority of Mainz’s away league games this term have seen a third effort hit the back of the net.

Foals frontman Tim Kleindeinst is a reliable anytime goalscorer option that cannot be ignored at around 2/1 to register his 15th Bundesliga strike of the season. He has managed to register in five of his side’s last seven games and grabbed one at Mainz earlier this term.
