      Botafogo vs Ponte Preta Predictions

With only two games to go, this match sees 6th place take on 10th but there is plenty of stake with Botafogo looking to hold onto a Copa Libertadores place while Ponte Preta are hoping to make the Copa Sudamericana. Victory for either would go a long way to securing that task but this is shaping up to be a cagey game with few chances.

A few weeks ago, you could have confidently backed Botafogo to win it but the goals and points have dried up for them of late. Their last 4 matches have produced just 3 goals and they were all scored by their opponents so they don’t come into the game full of confidence. Almost all their recent matches have been tight low scoring games. A massive 14 of their last 15 games in all competitions have had under 2.5 goals and on the basis of that, those looking for entertainment should probably look elsewhere on Saturday evening.

Ponte Preta will view a point as a good result, so they aren’t likely to come here and try anything too adventurous, so it’s safe to say a low-scoring game looks on the cards. 6 of Ponte Preta’s last 8 games have also featured under 2.5 goals and they’ve netted just 0.78 goals per game on the road this season so they aren’t particularly great travellers. They’ve taken just 3 points from their last 11 away games and have been beaten to nil in 4 of the last 5 so it’s safe to say any sort of result here will be a bonus and despite Botafogo’s recent struggles, they still look the most likely winners.

A safer bet though is surely to go with the stats, that strongly suggest this will be a low scoring game. You can back there to be under 2.5 goals at 7/10 which looks like a solid punt here.
