City to gain Brentford revenge
Manchester City may have won the treble last season, but they could not get the better of Brentford during 2022/23, as they were beaten home and away by the Bees in the Premier League.
However, City will head into this clash at the Gtech Community Stadium having won eight matches on the spin across all competitions and 10 of their previous 11 since they were last beaten at Aston Villa in early December.
Pep Guardiola has also seen his side score at least two goals in 10 of their last 11 matches, although they have not always been watertight at the back, conceding in five away league fixtures on the bounce and in Wednesday’s 3-1 home success over struggling Burnley.
Bees can register against champions
Brentford will take plenty of heart from their two wins against City last season, but the Bees have struggled to hit those same heights this term and will head into this one having won just one and lost seven of their previous nine games.
Winning may have been a problem for Thomas Frank’s side but scoring hasn’t, as the Bees have netted in seven matches on the spin, however, they have also gone 12 games without a clean-sheet.
The hosts can certainly contribute to an entertaining contest on Monday and their chances of scoring have been boosted by the availability of Ivan Toney, who has netted two in as many matches since his return.
Alvarez to deliver once again
City’s winning run has been made all the more impressive as it has largely been achieved without top scorer Erling Haaland, who only returned as a late substitute against Burnley after nearly two months out with a foot injury.
Other players have certainly stepped up to the plate in Haaland’s absence, most notably Julian Alvarez, who made it seven goals in as many games with his brace against the Clarets.
With Haaland still being eased back into action, Alvarez could be set for another starring role on Monday, as he goes in search of what would be his 9th Premier League goal of the campaign, which would equal his tally for the whole of last season.
