Bulgaria To Win To Nil

Bulgaria 1-0

Reason for tip

Bulgaria scrapped to a 1-0 win over Northern Ireland in their last Nations League game and Saturday’s clash with Luxembourg could replicate that scoreline

Bulgaria vs Luxembourg Predictions

  • Bulgaria are unbeaten in their last eight games, although six of those have been draws
  • Luxembourg have failed to score in their last four away matches
  • Nine of Luxembourg’s last 13 away games have featured fewer than three goals

Bulgarian defence likely to hold firm

Bulgaria’s defending has been solid in recent matches, but they will hope their 1-0 victory over Northern Ireland last time will help them kick on in the Nations League.

After four clean sheets in their last six matches, including a goalless draw in Belarus in their other tie, they should be confident when they face Luxembourg in Plovdiv on Saturday as their opponents have failed to net in five of their last six matches.

Luxembourg are not quite the whipping boys they used to be a few years ago, but their recent issues suggest they will do well to lay a glove on Bulgaria, who should be trusted to come through the game unscathed, so take the home side to win this weekend’s clash without conceding.

Goals may be at a premium

Bulgaria’s ability to keep their shot-shy opponents are bay means this is a game that is unlikely to feature a feast of goals.

There have been fewer than three successful efforts in all but four of Luxembourg’s last 13 away games and the same can be said of eight of the home side’s last ten matches, so it seems logical that pattern is likely to continue.

Add to the mix that Bulgaria have scored more than once in just two of their last 17 matches, the correct-score prediction is that Ilian Iliev’s team will come out on top 1-0, just as they did against Northern Ireland in their last home game
