Burnley To Win To Nil

Reason for tip

Burnley boast the best defensive record in the EFL and have kept eight Championship clean-sheets on the bounce. While they have drawn their last three home games 0-0, the Clarets are fancied to edge past an Oxford team that, although much improved, still struggle for results on the road.

Burnley 1-0

Reason for tip

Burnley are unbeaten at home this season and have conceded just four goals at Turf Moor. While scoring goals at the other end remains an issue, the Clarets should be able to edge past an Oxford side that have won just once on the road all season, although one goal is likely to be all that separates the two teams.

Burnley vs Oxford United Predictions

  • Burnley have conceded just nine goals in 30 Championship matches this season
  • The Clarets have kept eight clean-sheets on the bounce in the league
  • Oxford have won only once on the road all season

Miserly Clarets aiming to bounce back

After being held to a goalless draw at struggling Portsmouth last time out, Championship promotion contenders Burnley will hope to bounce back when a much-improved Oxford head to Turf Moor.

While their stalemate at Fratton Park did extend the Clarets’ unbeaten run to 18 matches across all competitions, it will have felt like a case of two points dropped for head coach Scott Parker, with promotion rivals Leeds and Sheffield United having both won.

Another clean-sheet will have a least pleased Parker, with Burnley having now shut their opponents out in eight Championship matches on the spin, while their tally of only nine league goals conceded remains by far and away the best record in the EFL.

Oxford a difficult proposition

Burnley are unbeaten on home soil this season, but they have drawn eight of their 14 league matches at Turf Moor, with each of the last three finishing 0-0.

Scoring goals remains an issue for the Clarets and they may face a stern test of their credentials against a rejuvenated Oxford, who have lost just one of their 10 matches since the arrival of head coach Gary Rowett.

Rowett has turned the U’s from relegation candidates into an upwardly mobile team, but they have still only won once on the road since returning to the Championship and Burnley may be able to eke out a 1-0 win.
