Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Spurs have scored in all of their games this season but they have struggled for clean sheets on their travels for some time, managing just one in their last nine away from home in a run stretching back into last season. Burnley have scored in their last two games and averaged over two goals per-game at home in the Championship last season, so we feel both teams can get on the scoresheet at Turf Moor.

Draw 2-2

Reason for tip

The Clarets are still seeking their first points of the season but should draw some confidence from a midweek EFL Cup win at Nottingham Forest. Tottenham have scored exactly two goals in all three of their league games but have found wins hard to come by away from home with just two in their last 13 competitive trips. Home form will be key for Burnley this year, and they can get off the mark by holding Spurs to a 2-2 draw.

James Maddison To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

James Maddison has hit the ground running with Spurs as he has two assists and a goal to his name after three appearances. The former Leicester man was used sparingly in the midweek EFL Cup defeat on penalties to Fulham so should be fresh for this game, and he can add to his account at Burnley.

Burnley vs Tottenham Hotspur Predictions

  • Burnley have scored in their last two games.
  • Tottenham have scored in all of their games this season.
  • Both teams have scored in eight of Spurs’ last nine games away from home.

Clarets seeking first Premier League points

Burnley entertain Tottenham on saturday and the promoted club are still looking for their first points of the new season.

The Clarets lost to champions Manchester City in their opener and then lost at home to Aston Villa, having seen a trip to Luton postponed in the meantime.

Vincent Kompany’s men did manage a midweek win at league rivals Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup, however, and that result may provide a bit of encouragement ahead of another tough game this weekend.

Spurs have coped well following the arrival of new boss Ange Postecoglou and the departure of Harry Kane. The North Londoners are yet to be beaten in the league with seven points from three games, including an eye-catching 2-0 win over Manchester United.

Goals at both ends likely

Spurs are the form team here but their results on the road haven’t necessarily been impressive and they have just one win in three attempts away from home this term.

Stretching back into last season, Tottenham have managed just two wins in their last 13 trips and with Burnley buoyed by that cup win over Forest the match result may be best avoided for the main bet.

Backing both teams to score does hold some appeal though, as there have been goals at both ends in eight of Tottenham’s last nine competitive away games and they have conceded in their last 13 road games. Burnley scored in defeat to Aston Villa in their last league assignment and hit 49 goals in 23 league games at Turf Moor last term, so both teams should be expected to score.

Burnley can claim a first point

Tottenham have looked good under Postecoglou but their road form remains a worry and with Burnley desperate to get their first points on the board the spoils could be shared here.

A 2-2 draw is the correct score prediction, as Spurs have scored exactly two goals in all of their league games so far and have already played out one 2-2 stalemate – at Brentford in the opening round of games.

James Maddison has hit the ground running with Spurs as he has two assists and a goal to his name after three appearances. The former Leicester man was used sparingly in the midweek EFL Cup defeat on penalties to Fulham so should be fresh for Saturday’s game, and he looks a good contender for an anytime goal.
