Cagliari vs Genoa Predictions
- Both teams have not scored in eight of Cagliari’s 14 home Serie A games this season
- Both teams have not scored in eight of Genoa’s 13 away league matches in 2024-25
- Both teams have not scored in four of the last six meetings of these clubs
Cagliari cannot afford to waste big salvation chance
Cagliari cannot afford to waste their opportunity to move further clear of the relegation zone before their rivals play when they host declining Genoa at Unipol Domus on Friday.
Davide Nicola’s men are three points clear of the bottom three going into this game and have much less breathing room than their guests, who moved onto 31 points with an unconvincing 1-1 home draw against Empoli.
Cagliari blow hot and cold at home with their recent form including wins over Verona, Lecce and Parma plus defeats to Atalanta, Inter Milan and Lazio. There is a clear distinction between the quality of teams that they have been beating and those that have returned home with all three points and Genoa now firmly appear in the former category.
Grifone’s goalscoring has gone downhill under Vieira
A drop-off in attacking output that Crystal Palace and Strasbourg fans would recognise has been noted since Patrick Vieira took charge in November with Il Grifone struggling to create the same number of chances as they were under predecessor Alberto Gilardino.
Vieira’s team did the bare minimum to claim a point against Empoli with a subdued performance and a late leveller from defender Johan Vazquez. They are hard to trust on the road after taking only two points from their last five Serie A trips.
Opposing goals in this game looks the way to go with backing one or both clubs to keep a clean sheet a potentially profitable avenue. The majority of Cagliari’s home games and Genoa’s away games this season have seen the ‘BTTS – no’ land and a 2-0 home win for Cagliari is not out of the question.
