Canada vs Mexico Predictions
- Canada are unbeaten through seven World Cup qualifiers.
- Mexico have lost just one of their qualifying matches so far.
- These sides played out a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture back in October.
Hosts going strong
Back-to-back wins over Costa Rica and Panama have moved Canada into the third and final automatic qualifying place out of North and Central America. They are just one point off the top two and remain the only unbeaten side left in the group after Mexico’s 2-0 loss to the USA on Friday.
Canada’s defensive stability makes them a hard team to beat. They have conceded just four goals through seven matches so far and have risen to 48th in the World rankings with the likes of Alphonso Davies and Jonathan David hoping to lead this ‘golden generation of stars to just the Canucks’ second World Cup.
Mexico seeking a response
A 2-0 loss in America on Friday night was Mexico’s first of the campaign but another loss here could potentially see them slip to 4th and into the play-off position. Prior to that defeat, Mexico had been in El Salvador for their last World Cup qualifier and picked up their second win in four matches on the road.
El Tri were victorious in Costa Rica in early September but were held by Panama (1-1) a few days later.
Mexico may have relinquished top spot but they still look comfortable and a draw here for both sides wouldn’t be disastrous. The last meeting ended in a 1-1 draw and given that there is so little between these sides I’m predicting a similar score here.
