Celtic vs Alloa Athletic Predictions

Celtic have had a pretty rough week by their standards. They went to the Camp Nou knowing they were huge underdogs, but what they didn’t expect was to come away having been handed their worst ever European defeat. They lost 7-0 at the hands of Barcelona, a far cry from the 5-1 hammering they dished out to Rangers the weekend before.

They followed this humbling loss with a trip to Inverness CT on Sunday, but they came away from that having dropped two points when the hosts equalised late on. This makes it two wins, two defeats, and one draw for Celtic in their last five games in all competitions.

Celtic are still the giants of Scottish football though, and this is likely to be just a blip on the radar. They have won all but one of their domestic games this season, scoring a ridiculous 22 goals in their six outings in Scotland. They hammered Premiership opposition Motherwell in the last round of the Scottish League Cup as well, so it doesn’t bode well for Alloa Athletic.

The visitors have enjoyed a fantastic start to this season, although they were one of the pre-season favourites for the Scottish League One title after being relegated from the Championship last term.

They started the campaign with four wins from four in the Scottish League Cup group stages, including a 3-2 win at home to current holders Ross County. This saw them progress to the next stage of the tournament where they knocked Inverness CT out. They were busy winning in League One at the time as well, and overall they have won 11 of their 12 competitive games this season, only losing to Livingston last weekend.

However, this is Celtic we’re talking about here. They are likely to field a weakened squad on Wednesday, but even that will be of a much higher quality than Alloa Athletic can muster. If young starlet Moussa Dembele plays, the visitors are in for a really tough time as well, but even without I’m expecting a very comfortable margin of victory for the hosts.

Celtic have scored at least four goals in each of their last four competitive home games and in four of their six competitive domestic games this term, so backing Celtic Over 3.5 Team Goals at 5/6 looks very good value indeed.
