Arsenal 2-1

Reason for tip

Arsenal have won their last six London derbies and seven of the last nine meetings with Chelsea. Despite their recent away setbacks, Arteta’s team have beaten Aston Villa and Spurs on their travels and they came close to winning at Manchester City as well this season. Chelsea have failed to win three of their five home league games and are yet to keep a clean sheet at Stamford Bridge, so the Gunners could snatch a 2-1 win.

Bukayo Saka To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Bukayo Saka has 10 goal contributions (3 goals, 7 assists) in 9 Premier League appearances this season. The England international tends to rise to the occasion in big games and looks a good bet to get on the scoresheet.

Chelsea vs Arsenal Predictions

  • The Gunners won at Aston Villa and Spurs before getting an away draw at Manchester City this season
  • Bukayo Saka has 10 goal contributions (3 goals, 7 assists) in 9 Premier League appearances this term

Arsenal have left themselves no room for error

Arsenal are attractively priced to extend their six-game sequence of London derby wins when they face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

The Gunners’ title prospects may already be on the line after Mikel Arteta’s side slipped to back-to-back away defeats at Bournemouth and Newcastle, leaving them seven points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool.

So there is no room for error or no chance of Arteta’s side settling for a draw against the Blues, who they have an excellent recent record against. Arsenal have won seven of the last nine meetings with Chelsea and the team has been completely revamped since the only defeat of that run.

Blues’ hopes rest with Palmer

Chelsea have shown steady improvement under new manager Enzo Maresca and currently sit level on points with Arsenal in fourth place after 10 games. They come into this match on the back of an impressive 8-0 thrashing of FC Noah in the Conference League, but Maresca has been operating with two completely different teams in the league and cup competitions.

In that respect, the XI that start on Sunday should be much fresher than Arsenal, who were made to fight to final whistle in a 1-0 Champions League away defeat to Inter Milan in midweek.

Maresca hopes to have Cole Palmer fit and firing on Sunday after the playmaker injured his knee in last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United. Chelsea were marginally the better side at Old Trafford, but did not do enough with their possession or chances to ever get in front.

Both teams to score at the Bridge

The Blues have been particularly strong at Stamford Bridge, going eight games unbeaten there in all competitions. However, they are yet to keep a Premier League clean sheet on home soil this season, which could be a concern against Arsenal’s potent attack.

That said, Arteta’s side have struggled for goals recently, failing to score in their last two outings. But the timely return of Martin Odegaard, who came off the bench at the San Siro in midweek, could solve some of their recent creativity issues from open play.

They remain a fearsome team from corners and free-kicks and were only denied an equaliser in Milan by a goalline clearance in a game which could have easily gone their way with some consistent refereeing.  Four of Chelsea’s last six home league games have seen both teams score, and a repeat looks likely here. Bukayo Saka has been Arsenal’s standout performer this season with 10 goal contributions in nine Premier League games and he can be the difference-maker in a narrow Arsenal win.

The England international tends to rise to the occasion in big games and looks a good bet to get on the scoresheet. For a correct score prediction, Arsenal’s superior record in London derbies gives them the edge, so back the Gunners to edge a 2-1 victory at Stamford Bridge.
