Chicago Fire vs Orlando City Predictions

  • Chicago Fire are unbeaten in their last two after a change of formation.
  • Orlando City have lost only one of their five away MLS contests this year (won 3, drawn 1).
  • Both teams have scored in the last three Orlando City away games.

Fire’s new formation is getting results

Chicago Fire won’t fear the visit of Orlando City to Soldier Field this Thursday as much as they might have done a week ago after two much-improved displays.

Coach Raphael Wicky switched to a 3-5-2 system prior to the visit of Philadelphia Union, who boasted one of the best away records in the Eastern Conference, and they fought out a 3-3 draw.

The Fire then followed it up with their best result of the season last weekend in beating Atlanta United 3-0 and will genuinely be confident of another upset.

Chicago coped well without captain Francisco Calvo, who is away with Costa Rica getting ready for the Gold Cup, last Sunday and their pressing game hardly suffered.

Visitors Orlando were vying for top spot in the east prior to last weekend’s shock home reverse to New York Red Bulls – the second time they have lost to that side this season.

It may not be a coincidence that the Red Bulls play with an aggressive press too and Orlando’s patient, passing style may need adaptation in order to avoid another defeat here.

The Lions’ overall away form suggests they can take something from the game in Illinois and we are forecasting a 1-1 draw on Thursday.

Although both teams to score has only come through once in the last four Fire home games, it certainly did in the 3-3 with the Union after the formation change.

Orlando City road trips regularly see both teams on the scoresheet so we are sticking with a draw and both teams on the scoresheet for the pick.
