Columbus Crew vs Montreal Impact Predictions

Last year’s MLS Cup finalists, Columbus Crew have disappointed this season. They started the new MLS campaign with three defeats and two draws in their opening five matches, and despite a slight resurgence when they beat New York City and Houston Dynamo they still haven’t managed to get a good run of form going.

They followed these two wins with a defeat and three draws before beating Real Salt Lake. They lost to Philadelphia Union in the final MLS game before June’s mini-break, but a 4-0 win over Tampa Bay Rowdies in the US Open Cup will have buoyed them a bit.

However, their poor form in the MLS has left them down in 9th position in the MLS Eastern Conference. They have managed just 14 points from their opening 13 matches, and at their current rate they will be lucky to make the MLS playoffs let along the cup final.

Montreal Impact are in a much more favourable 2nd position in the Eastern Conference, but that is largely thanks to their early season form. They won four of their opening six matches in the MLS to five them 12 points, but since then they have picked up just seven points from their next seven games.

Only one of these matches was a victory, with a 3-2 win over LA Galaxy just before the break in the season ending a six match winless streak that saw them lose twice. They were also knocked out of the Canadian Cup by Toronto FC recently, which will be a major disappointment to them.

Columbus Crew have won four of their last six home games as well, losing none, so this will be a difficult game for the visitors. The hosts have conceded in all but two of their seven home games this season though, but have also found the net in all of them. Montreal Impact may have only won one away game this season, but they have found the back of the net in all but two of their eight away days and all of their last five.

This makes odds of 4/6 for Both Teams to Score look good value for money, and I’m backing that along with a 3-1 Columbus Crew win at 16/1.
