Coventry vs Manchester United Predictions
- Coventry have scored 19 goals in this season’s FA Cup, more than any other side.
- Four of Manchester United’s last six games have gone over 3.5 goals
- Manchester United’s last two games have finished 2-2
Sky Blues looking to make history
Coventry have reached the FA Cup semi-finals for the first time since their historic win in the 1987 final, in which they overcame Tottenham to lift the trophy for the only time in the club’s history.
Now the Sky Blues are on the brink of becoming the first team since 2008 to reach the final of the FA Cup while playing in the Championship. The club have been on a remarkable journey over the last ten years, going down to League Two and being banished from Coventry on two separate occasions.
They have risen through the levels impressively under Mark Robins however, who is a fair candidate for English football’s most under rated manager. Robins netted a crucial winner over Nottingham Forest in the 1990 edition of this competition that kept Sir Alex Ferguson in a job.
The former Red Devil will be hoping to get the better of his former side on this occasion however although his team have been struggling for form in the league, losing three of their last four games, with their chances of securing a play-off spot disappearing in recent weeks.
It is possible that this game was merely overshadowing those matches however and they should be bang up for this one.
The Sky Blues are the top scorers in this year’s FA Cup, netting 19 times, and they could be involved in a high-scoring affair here.
Red Devils on the redemption trail
Manchester United have endured a disappointing campaign and the pressure is mounting on Erik Ten Hag as a result. Lifting the FA Cup would alleviate some of the pressure on him and as a result is likely to be the aim for the rest of the season.
The Red Devils have an injury crisis in defence at present however, with Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane all set to miss out while Jonny Evans is also a major doubt.
19-year-old Willy Kambwala has been thrown in at the deep end as a result and he struggled against Bournemouth at the weekend. Their defensive issues are also part of the reason that four of Manchester United’s last six games have gone over 3.5 goals. A repeat of that looks likely.
The Wright stuff
Manchester United’s last two games have both finished 2-2 and with their defensive issues, a repeat of that could be on the cards for correct score backers. Expect Coventry to give as good as they get and Haji Wright could be a major part of that, the forward has 17 goals in all competitions this season and is also the Sky Blues’ penalty taker.
Take Wright to add to his tally here.
