Crystal Palace vs Leicester City Predictions

  • Both teams have scored in all three of Leicester’s Premier League games this season
  • Leicester have lost their last two Premier League matches by 2-1 scoreline
  • Four of Crystal Palace’s last six Premier League home games have gone over 3.5 goals
  • Mateta bagged 14 goals in Palace’s final 16 matches last season

Palace to build on draw at Chelsea

Crystal Palace are still looking for their first win of the Premier League campaign but they held Chelsea to a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge prior to the international break and our prediction is for them to get off the mark against newly-promoted Leicester.

The Foxes have had a lively start on their return to the English top flight, scoring in all three opening fixtures against Aston Villa, Fulham and Tottenham.

They have only a draw to show from those efforts, but it did highlight the fact that they can stay competitive against the better teams and they will fancy their chances of troubling Palace, who also have only a point to show from their opening matches.

The Eagles finished with a flourish last season, winning six of their last seven matches under new boss Oliver Glasner but they have struggled to repeat that impressive form which yielded wins over Villa, Manchester United, Newcastle and Liverpool.

We predict a win on Saturday, though, but they may not have things all their own way at Selhurst Park.

Foxes can stay in the hunt for goals

Leicester have been on the receiving end of two 2-1 defeats since their return to the Premier League and that scoreline is our prediction this Saturday, too.

While goals have been fairly easy to come by, the Foxes haven’t been overly active in attack, managing just ten shots on target in their opening three league matches, so it is perhaps somewhat impressive that they have scored in each fixture.

And after losing key defender Joachim Andersen in the summer to Fulham, Palace have struggled to hold teams at bay, keeping a clean sheet only once in the 4-0 win over Championship side Norwich in their League Cup clash.

Palace should be too strong in south London this week, but Leicester can make their mark and a 2-1 scoreline looks a likely outcome.

Mateta ready to get up and running

Jean Philippe-Mateta had a busy summer, playing a starring role for France Under 23s in the Paris Olympics football competition, but despite scoring five goals at the Games, he has managed just two goals against Norwich on his return to Crystal Palace.

He is yet to score in the Premier League this season, but a look at his performances last season suggest he should get back up and running sooner rather than later.

The French forward smashed in 14 goals in Palace’s final 16 league matches last season and a return to form is unlikely to be too far away.

Leicester are conceding shots on target at a rate of six per game in the Premier League this season, but that tally could rise on Saturday and we predict Mateta to get off the mark for the new season back on home soil in south London.
