Crystal Palace vs Newcastle Predictions
- 11 of Newcastle’s last 14 Premier League games have gone over 3.5 goals
- Crystal Palace have scored 11 goals in their four matches at Selhurst Park under Oliver Glasner
- Both teams to score has been a winning bet in eight of Palace’s last ten home games and five of Newcastle’s last six road matches
Exciting Eagles can put on another Selhurst show
The appointment of Oliver Glasner has really freshened things up at Selhurst Park, where it had become very stale under Roy Hodgson, and a 5-2 thrashing of London rivals West Ham demonstrated exactly how far the Eagles have come under the Austrian in a short space of time.
Palace’s five-goal haul against the Hammers means they have now netted 11 times in their four home matches under Glasner, with his attacking style and high press getting the most out of a talented squad and rallying the crowd simultaneously.
The Eagles managed two goals against Manchester City in their previous home match, suggesting they should have no issues putting at least a couple past Newcastle, who have conceded 24 times in their last ten league away games.
Magpies may add to the goals in London
However, it may not be one-way traffic at Selhurst Park on Wednesday, as the Magpies have a knack for finding the net themselves. Eddie Howe’s men have scored 15 goals in their last six league games, putting four past top four-chasing Spurs last time out, and they should help bring up the scoring total in London.
The Magpies have a tendency to be involved in high-scoring matches, due in part to the form of their attackers and equally because of a plethora of injuries in defence. 11 of Newcastle’s last 14 Premier League games have gone over 3.5 goals, including five of their last six matches on the road.
Howe will still be without key defender Sven Botman, Jamaal Lascelles and Matt Targett for his side’s trip to the capital, while first-choice goalkeeper Nick Pope is also injured and Kieran Trippier is a doubt. Those injuries have left Newcastle vulnerable at the back, and Palace’s frightening frontline could expose the Magpies with frequency at Selhurst Park.
In-form Isak can continue fine form
The Eagles soared into a three-goal lead on Sunday, going 3-0 up against the Hammers in the opening 20 minutes, and their exciting attackers will be keen to make another fast start.
Jean-Philippe Mateta has been the star under Glasner, notching five goals in his four home games under the Austrian including a brace against West Ham, but Ebere Eze and Michael Olise’s returns from injury have further boosted the Eagles’ attack, with both netting on Sunday.
The hosts have plenty of goalscoring options to help this match go over 3.5 goals, but so do the visitors. Alexander Isak is arguably the most in-form striker in the Premier League right now, having netted seven goals in as many games and chipping in with a few assists too, and he could help the Magpies play their part in another exciting encounter.
