Denmark vs Wales Predictions
Wales started their Nations League campaign with a bang on Thursday night, as they put four goals past the Republic of Ireland. The Welsh have made the perfect start to this group, but can they continue that ahead of their trip to Denmark this week? With an early double header of games, Wales will be half-way through their Nations League campaign after this clash, but will they have a 100% record? It looked nailed on when Denmark fielded a side full of students and amateurs in midweek, but this tie is now much tougher.
Denmark hit the headlines when their players were released from international duty before it even started. A failure to agree terms on a commercial deal with their players saw them go on strike, and they drafted in players from their Futsal team and the third tier of their domestic league. They didn’t get much success with that approach, as they were hammered 3-0 by Slovakia. Following that, a temporary deal was reached to cover this game, which puts Denmark back at full strength.
Wales would have ben relishing their clash with the Danes, which could have given them a walkover victory, and all but assured top spot in the group. However, they now face a tough clash in Arhus, with a side who were unbeaten through their World Cup campaign. They were eliminated on penalties against eventual runners-up Croatia, but they made a strong push for the quarter-finals in that tie. Will they now follow that up with a victory over the Welsh?
The Danes hit 10 goals across their five home group games in World Cup qualifying, while they were quite prolific in the race for Euro 2016. They should expect to cause damage going forward, and it helps that all of their players were rested in midweek. It seems like that could now work for them, especially given Christian Eriksen’s remarkable scoring form for his country, which saw him score 11 times in 12 starts across qualifying for Russia.
We expect the Danes to grab a goal, but their limited preparation time means their defence is exposed. They are going up against a side who have just hit form with four goals, and Gareth Bale has made an excellent start to the campaign for Real Madrid. With each side possessing in form, world-class ability going forward, we expect goals here. We’re backing both teams to score, while we can see the Welsh holding out and getting a 1-1 draw out of this tough trip.
