Derby County vs Hull City Predictions

Both clubs were hopeful they’d be in the running for automatic promotion this year but both suffered an extended bad run of form that blew their chances. Derby at least recovered to make the play-offs, something they failed to do last season and probably won’t have lost too much sleep over their 1-0 defeat to Ipswich last weekend. They’d gone 6 matches without defeat prior to that and Darren Wassall had really got them playing some good football again.

Hull picked up a 5-1 win at home to Rotherham last weekend to clinch a home 2nd leg in the play-offs and have only lost 1 of their last 7 games although that was a 1-0 defeat against bottom club Bolton. They aren’t great on the road though and have suffered defeats in 4 of their last 6 away games so they’d certainly be relieved to get back to the KC Stadium with the scores at least level. They are prone to the odd really poor performance and one of those came when they visited the iPro Stadium only last month when they were hammered 4-0 by Derby.

The Rams also won at the KC Stadium earlier in the season so may have a psychological advantage coming into this tie although in truth the teams are quite evenly matched. If Derby can repeat that level of performance they should be taking a lead to Humberside next week and they have been playing well at home of late, winning 5 of their last 7 home games. Home advantage could play a key role in determining who progresses to Wembley and it’s certainly hard to see Derby losing here having done the hard work of getting into the play-offs and backing Derby Draw No Bet at 4/6 looks a very safe bet with Hull unlikely to take any risks to chase the win in any case.
