Djurgarden vs IFK Goteborg Predictions
Djurgarden had high hopes of challenging for a European qualification position this season after their 6th placed finish last term but what has actually happened couldn’t be further from the truth.
They come into game week 17 in the Sweden Allsvenskan down in 14th position, which happens to be the relegation playoff position. They sit just four points above the automatic drop spots and two points adrift of safety after a dismal campaign. They have managed just 15 points from their 16 games so far.
It will come as no surprise that they are currently in a spell of very poor form. They have lost five matches on the bounce, four of which have been in the Allsvenskan and one being a mid-season friendly. In the Allsvenskan they have lost eight of their last nine outings and just look in awful form at the moment.
IFK Goteborg’s season hasn’t gone entirely to plan either but they are at least doing a lot better than their opponents. The visitors finished 2nd in last season’s Allsvenskan, trailing champions Norrkoping by three points after their 30 game season was over.
They already trail leaders Malmo by six points, which puts them down in 4th position after 16 games of the season. They are only a point behind a Europa League qualification spot though and there’s still a lot of time to mount a title challenge.
IFK Goteborg also have the added pressure of an ongoing Europa League campaign, although they won’t be complaining about that! They are now just a single round away from making it to the group stages after they knocked HJK out in midweek.
This win made it eight wins from their last 13 in all competitions, with their only defeat being the 2-1 loss to HJK in the first leg of that tie. In the Allsvenskan they are unbeaten in seven and have won four of them.
IFK Goteborg do struggle a bit more away from home though but they are still unbeaten in six of their competitions and have only lost twice all season. Meanwhile, Djurgarden have lost four of their last six home matches, which makes odds of 1.875 for an IFK Goteborg 0.0 Asian Handicap look very good value. I’m also going for a 2-1 correct score prediction at 17/2.
