Spain U23 To Win To Nil

Reason for tip

Olympics 2020 silver-medallists Spain won their opener against Uzbekistan and face a Dominican Republic side that have lost four of their last six games. They have failed to score in four of these matches and were hammered 7-0 by France in their final warm-up game.

Spain U23 2-0

Reason for tip

Spain scored twice against Uzbekistan and Dominican Republic looked fairly solid at the back against Egypt, but this is a much greater attacking threat and a repeat of their 2-0 defeat to Paraguay in March could be on the cards.

Sergio Gomez To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Sergio Gomez scored the winner for Spain against Uzbekistan and also had a goal disallowed three minutes before that notch. He was a threat throughout and could make the difference in Bordeaux.

Dominican Republic U23 vs Spain U23 Predictions

  • Dominican Republic have failed to score in three of their last four games.
  • Dominican Republic have lost four of their last six matches.

Gomez to drive La Roja forward

Olympics 2020 silver-medallists Spain clinched an opening day win against Uzbekistan on Wednesday and should be in line for a more comfortable victory in their second outing on Saturday.

La Roja’s under-23 side, aiming to replicate the success of the senior team this summer, beat Uzbekistan 2-1 and dominated throughout the match, eventually settling the score with a 62nd-minute Sergio Gomez strike.

Gomez had already had a goal disallowed three minutes before this, and the Manchester City attacker looks a solid bet to get on the scoresheet against Dominican Republic.

Underdogs set for defeat

The underdogs played out a goalless draw with Egypt in their opener and were thrashed 7-0 by host nation France in their final pre-tournament warm-up game. They have now failed to score in three of their last four matches, and backing Spain to win to nil appeals.

The Dominican Republic did look more defensively assured against Egypt than their drubbing at the hands of France might have foreshadowed, so I don’t expect a thrashing in Bordeaux. Spain scored twice against Uzbekistan and Dominican Republic lost 2-0 against Paraguay in March, so a repeat of that scoreline could be on the cards.
