      Doncaster vs Portsmouth Predictions

A good start to the season is an essential factor for any team who wishes to challenge for promotion and taking points off the sides who you would expect to be your rivals for the same goal is also something which will improve a sides odds of accomplishing that aim. This weekend sees two sides in League One would have been tipped to be fighting to play their football in the Championship next season face off as Doncaster Rovers welcome Portsmouth to the Keepmoat Stadium.

Doncaster Rovers will have every reason to believe that they are strong enough to claim the three points this weekend. The hosts have been around the play-off picture in League One for a few seasons now and following their strong showing against in form Coventry City in a 1-1 draw last time out, they have proven they have the ability to mix it with the best in the division. However, although they have one of the best defensive records in the league, they will know that they will have to improve on their attacking output to kick on to the next step.

Despite a strong showing and a play-off place last season, Portsmouth have not exactly been able to build on their success so far this season and find themselves well off the pace. Hopes will have been high for Pompey but their form in the opening quarter of the campaign means that, although they have either one or two games in hand on many other sides, they are actually looking like they are in a fight to retain their spot in League One at the wrong end of the table this time around.

Portsmouth may have the better of the overall head to head between these two sides, but it is a fixture that Doncaster have dominated in recent years. The hosts are undefeated in the previous eight meetings between these two sides and when you consider the strength Rovers have shown so far, especially on home soil, and the lack of form displayed by their visitors, then backing a home win appears to be the only way to go.

In truth, it looks to be a pretty comfortable afternoon for the hosts and with the strength they have shown at the back, a clean sheet also looks to be incoming. Pompy have only managed a single point from their four matches on the road so far, so backing a 2-0 home scoreline is where we are placing our trust.
