Dynamo Dresden vs Paderborn Predictions
Given their position, Dresden have nothing left to fight for, but Paderborn are still competing for automatic promotion. The visitors know that they cannot finish lower than 3rd, though a win would ensure that they return to the top-flight. A draw may also be enough, though it wouldn’t be if Union Berlin were to win.
After only narrowly missing out on the drop last season, Dresden would’ve been hoping to do much better this time around, though they’ve not improved much. At the end of the previous campaign, Dynamo had 41 points to their name. As thing stand, they’ve got 37 points, so things haven’t exactly got better. Fortunately, Sunday’s hosts are four points above 16th place, which means that there’s no danger of them going down.
Poor away form is the main reason as to why Dresden occupy a rather unflattering league position, though they’ve not done overly well at home. Dynamo have won six, drawn five and lost five of their 16 home games. Such a record isn’t terribly poor, but it won’t strike fear into the hearts of high-flyers Paderborn.
As for the visitors, well, much of Paderborn’s success this season has been built on strong home form, though Sunday’s visitors haven’t done badly on the road. They boast the sixth-best away record in the division, while they’ve certainly not been shy in terms of scoring goals, as they’ve notched a pleasing average of 1.56 goals away from home. Dresden average only 1.44 at home.
However, while they’ve scored far more than they’ve conceded at home, Paderborn have struggled to contain teams on their travels, as they’ve conceded an average of 1.5 goals. The visitors also come into this match without a clean sheet on the road this season. Such a stat is somewhat worrying, or at least it is for Paderborn fans, who’ll be hoping that their team can get over the line with a win on Sunday.
At the end of the day, Paderborn are a better side than Dresden, they’ve shown that this season, though their defensive exploits on the road are concerning. Moreover, although they’re a better side, they’re not good enough to merit heavy odds-on favouritism away from home.
The bet that stands out ahead of this fixture is ‘Dresden to Score Over 1.5 Goals’. Paderborn’s defensive deficiencies are there for all to see, while it’s not as if the hosts are averse to hurting the top sides. Dresden recently notched three goals away against Koln. On that occasion, they thrived on the break, which bodes well ahead of a match against a Paderborn side that will almost certainly get forward.
All in all, when we consider the recent attacking form of the hosts, who’ve notched at least two goals in each of their last two at home, in conjunction with Paderborn’s defensive displays away from home this season we can conclude that the hosts are more likely to notch twice than the current odds suggest.
