Atalanta to get back to winning ways

Atalanta will be desperate to bounce back from their midweek Champions League defeat to Club Brugge and can edge a high-scoring clash with Empoli.

While they’ve crashed out of Europe, Atalanta went into the weekend third in Serie A and 30 points better off than hosts Empoli, who are facing a relegation battle.

The visitors have 15 wins, six draws and four losses, while Empoli have four wins, nine draws and 12 defeats.

Atalanta are hard to beat in the league, avoiding defeat in nine of their last ten Serie A games. They ran out dominant 5-0 winners over Verona in their last away game two weeks ago and have returned home winners on five of their last six visits to Empoli, a team they have beaten in six of the last seven meetings.

Empoli lost 3-0 to Udinese on Sunday in their last Serie A game, failing to win for the 10th consecutive match, and a home meeting with Gian Piero Gasperini’s men will pose them with a difficult test.

Atalanta have won seven of their last nine Serie A away matches and, with four of Empoli’s last six matches producing three goals or more, a 2-1 win for Atalanta looks a decent correct-score bet.
