Roma resurgence to continue at Empoli

Roma are in the winning habit in Serie A and look set to come out on top away at Empoli on Sunday. The hosts have managed just one victory in their last ten home games in the league and it is seven games since they last tasted success at the Carlo Castellani.

Roma are ten places above Empoli in the table, with the two sides separated by 21 points. The hosts are 18th with four wins and 13 defeats, while Roma sit eighth with 12 wins, seven draws and eight losses.

Roma’s 2-1 victory over Como last Sunday was their seventh win in nine Serie A games. Priced at 17/20 to win the game, they have now won nine of the 12 matches in which they have been odds-on this season.

The hosts’ defence has been far from solid, with Empoli failing to keep a clean sheet in nine of their last ten home games. They have conceded 19 goals at home this season – an average of 1.46 goals per game from 13 matches.

The hosts have been disappointing in front of goal this season, scoring just five goals in 13 home games – an average of 0.38 goals per game. They have lost three of their last four matches without finding the back of the net.

Six of Empoli’s last eight matches have ended in defeat and they are without a win in 12 which does not bode well for the visit of Roma, who can take the spoils despite having put plenty into Thursday’s 2-1 Europa League draw win against Athletic Bilbao.

Roma have won their last three Serie A road games and have taken four of the last six by the odd goal. They have won their last two away league matches 1-0, and a narrow win looks on the cards here too.
