England vs Hungary Predictions
- All of England’s games in June have seen fewer than three goals
- The Three Lions have scored only once across those three matches
- The visitors have conceded just three times in three Nations League games
- Hungary have lost by a single goal in their last four defeats
England fighting the drop
After losing their opener in Hungary, England are bottom of their Nations League group at the half-way stage. Gareth Southgate’s side have scored only once across three matches this month and that was a Harry Kane penalty in a draw with Germany. They’ve made a winless start in this group, meaning the Three Lions are currently on course for relegation from the top tier.
Tuesday’s clash with Hungary is a huge chance for Southgate’s side to claw their way towards safety, as they host Hungary at Molineux. While the England boss has been open about how fatigued his side are ahead of these games, he also clearly respects the Nations League and he should push for safety in this clash.
Hungary to build on strong month
The visitors were dealt a tough hand in this group, facing the two Euro 2020 finalists and Germany. They’ve held their own so far, claiming four points across their three matches. They’ve also held Germany to a draw and they narrowly lost at Italy, so Hungary are no pushovers.
We saw that in the Euros last year, when the Hungarians held both Germany and France to draws. Given how England struggled to create chances in the reverse fixture, it’s hard to see the hosts running away with this one.
Back against England’s tired forwards
The hosts’ fatigue is clear, it is showing in their attacking play and they aren’t likely to improve much in their fourth game in such a short timeframe. They’re facing a compact Hungary side who have conceded only three times in three tough games, so I don’t expect the Three Lions to run away with this one.
The hosts have seen under 2.5 goals in all three games this month and it’s worth backing a repeat in this clash. These two sides met late last year in World Cup qualifying and Hungary were able to dig in and claim a 1-1 draw, so expect a low-scoring contest in this meeting.
Back under 2.5 goals in this encounter, with a narrow 1-0 victory for England my correct score prediction. The visitors have lost by a single goal in each of their last four international defeats, including three 1-0 losses. With England in must-win territory, back them to narrowly edge this despite their issues in attack.
