England vs Switzerland Predictions
- Switzerland are unbeaten in their last eight games.
- England have only won one of their last five matches.
- Five of these sides’ last ten combined games have ended 1-1.
Cautious Three Lions must improve
England were saved from a humiliating round-of-16 to Slovakia on Sunday thanks to a moment of magic from Jude Bellingham, but there is no doubt that the Three Lions must show drastic improvement if they are to progress any further in this tournament.
Gareth Southgate’s side have had just 12 shots on target across their three games so far, scoring four times and winning only one of this quartet of matches.
Less worrying than the results are the performances, with howls of frustration providing the backing track to a repeating scenario in which the star-studded England side pass it among their centre-backs, refuse to make any runs in behind the defence, and fail to offer any width in the final third.
Impressive Switzerland target historic semi-final
Despite all this, the beaten Euro 2024 finalists remain favourites in the outright market, and Switzerland could make a mockery of that tag on Saturday.
Murat Yakin’s side earned a deserved 2-0 win over Italy in a dominant display last time out and were moments away from beating Germany in their final group game, which followed an excellent win over Hungary and a more subdued draw with Scotland.
Switzerland and Ndoye the value play
Team Nati are now unbeaten in eight games, with results against the likes of Denmark, Austria, Germany, and Italy illustrating that they can go toe-to-toe with anybody right now.
England, meanwhile, have only won one of their last five matches inside 90 minutes, making a Switzerland double chance stand out as an excellent bet.
I do expect another largely frustrating game, and I would not be surprised to see this settled in extra-time or penalties. England have drawn their last three games, two of which ended 1-1, while Switzerland have played out three 1-1 stalemates in their last five matches, so that looks a solid correct score prediction.
Anytime goalscorer punters should look to the Swiss side of the fence, with Dan Ndoye the most attractive option. The Bologna forward has had 13 shots this tournament and scored against Germany, while he has also generated 1.5 expected goals in his four outings.
