England Women vs Cameroon Women Predictions

It was a relatively uncomplicated, if not impressive, group campaign for England, who won three out of three on route to the last-16. Having beaten a useful Japanese side last time out, Phil Neville’s Lionesses will fancy themselves to get the better of Cameroon, who scraped through thanks to a 95th minute goal against New Zealand.

England continued to go quietly about their business on match-day three, as they delivered a professional performance to beat Japan by two goals to nil. They started well, scored early, were tough to break down, prevented their opponents from creating much and finally killed the game off in the final quarter. Such a performance showed that Phil Neville’s women are growing in confidence, so they’ll fancy themselves to get the better of a Cameroon side that has looked a little bit all over the place at times.

To reach the last-16, Cameroon have done well, and for Ajara Nchout’s fine winning goal against New Zealand alone, they deserve to have made it through, though it’s very easy to pick holes in their performances.

Unlike some of the other unfancied countries, Cameroon have offered a threat going forward, especially when skilful pair Nchout and Onguene have been allowed to get on the ball in the final third, though they’ve struggled to create more than their opponents. Both Canada and Netherlands created considerably more than Cameroon, while even New Zealand, who were ultimately tame in front of goal, forged numerous openings against what is a less than sturdy rear-guard.

For all Cameroon have offered moments of promise at this tournament, they’ve always looked on the verge of a severe beating. Netherlands threatened to run riot when scoring three goals against Alain Djeumfa’s women but never quite managed it, though a well-drilled England side that looked ready to take the next step offensively last time out can punish the Cameroonians.

In the betting, ‘England to Score Over 3.5 Goals’ catches the eye. As touched on above, Netherlands really ought to have extended themselves and scored four or five against Cameroon’s weak back-line, while even New Zealand got into numerous positions of promise, so much so that an England side full of offensive quality look a good price to rack up the goals.
