Draw

Reason for tip

Both of these teams have struggled in some of their recent Euro qualifiers, but they look well matched in the Nations League system and they may have to settle for a point each in Tallinn.

Draw 1-1

Reason for tip

Estonia have failed to score in five of their last seven home matches so it is difficult to be optimistic about their chances but there looks a strong chance this will be a low-scoring clash so go for a 1-1 draw

Estonia vs Azerbaijan Predictions

  • Azerbaijan have scored just four goals in their last six away matches
  • Estonia have failed to score in five of their last seven home games
  • Both teams have scored in four of Azerbaijan’s last five outings

Strugglers look difficult to split

Azerbaijan claimed a 2-0 victory in Tallinn when they visited in a Euro 2024 qualifier 12 months ago, and while they have lost the other five of their last six away games, a Nations League game against Estonia means they should not expect another thumping.

They lost 5-0 in away games against Belgium and Sweden during the qualifiers for this summer’s jamboree in Germany, but they look capable of claiming a point on Friday.

Both have lost to the Swedes and Slovakia in their opening two games, but the Nations League is designed to bring us competitive matches and these two could be difficult to separate.

Don’t expect a glut of goals

Estonia and Azerbaijan have been struggling for goals with the home side failing to find the net in five of their last seven matches on their own patch, while Azerbaijan’s tally of four goals from their last six games on their travels includes the two they put past Friday’s opponents last October.

So a low-scoring game is expected and with just nine places separating the two teams in Fifa’s men’s rankings – Azerbaijan are 113th and Estonia are 122nd – a 1-1 draw may be a worthy consideration for those looking for a correct-score selection
