Exeter City vs Middlesbrough Predictions
- Middlesbrough have won seven of their last eight games
- Middlesbrough have won three of their last five matches without conceding
- Exeter have scored only once in their last five assignments
Boro can bounce back from Stoke slip-up
Middlesbrough slipped to a surprise 2-0 defeat at home to Stoke on Saturday but had been on a resurgent run under Michael Carrick beforehand and they can return to winning ways in the EFL Cup against Exeter.
Prior to Saturday’s defeat, Middlesbrough had won seven matches on the spin to force their way into the top half of the Championship and that run included a 2-0 win away to League Two Bradford City in the third round of the EFL Cup.
Their last-16 opponents Exeter, meanwhile, are having a tough time of it right now, having won just five of their opening 15 matches in League One, leaving them just a handful of spots above the relegation zone.
They nicked a point off Lincoln in a 1-1 draw on Saturday but they had failed to score in each of their last four games in all competitions beforehand and it would be no surprise if they drew a blank against Boro.
Tight Boro defence points to low-scoring affair
Key to Middlesbrough’s recent revival has been a sturdy rearguard with four of their recent seven wins having been coupled with a clean sheet.
Since the start of the month Carrick’s men have won to nil against Cardiff, Sunderland and Birmingham and that looks like a worthwhile bet against the struggling Grecians.
As for a correct score prediction, do not expect goals to rain down in this game with 2-0 to Middlesbrough a decent betting approach.
