FC Porto vs Liverpool Predictions
- Liverpool have scored more Champions League goals against Porto (11) than any other side during Klopp’s reign
- Liverpool have won four of their last five Champions League group stage trips
- The Reds have scored three goals in each of their last five games
- Mo Salah has scored in his last five Liverpool appearances
Familiar trip for Klopp
The Champions League has a habit of recycling games and Porto against Liverpool is no exception. These two sides have met six times in this competition, including four previous clashes under Jurgen Klopp’s reign.
So far these clashes have played into the hands of Liverpool, having won three of the last four meetings between the pair. No side has conceded more goals in the Champions League against Klopp’s Liverpool than Porto (11). We’re backing the goals to reign in this week.
Reds can take control of group
Liverpool had to come from behind to beat AC Milan in matchday one, but the Reds have a great chance to take control of an incredibly tough group. Porto drew with Atletico in their opener, so a win in Portugal would put Klopp’s men in a commanding position.
They tend to excel at this stage of the competition, so I have little fear that Liverpool won’t make it through. They are unbeaten in their last five away games in the group stage of the Champions League (W4 D1), so back them to take a big step towards the last 16 on Tuesday night.
High-scoring visitors to triumph
It helps that Liverpool head into this one in form, which sees them head to Portugal as favourites. The Reds have won four of their last five matches, scoring exactly three goals in each of those games.
Liverpool have a fantastic record at this ground under Klopp, winning 5-0 and 4-1 in their two visits. As a result, goals should flow at the Dragao. I’m backing Liverpool to claim a victory, while a 3-1 away win is my correct score prediction.
Mo Salah should get one of those goals, adding to his record 11 away goals for Liverpool in this competition. The Egyptian has scored in five of his last six Champions League appearances and each of his last five games for Liverpool. Having scored at Porto in his last two visits, back Salah to net here.
