Tottenham Hotspur -1

Reason for tip

Tottenham have covered a -1 handicap in each of their last three matches and have the quality and confidence to make it a comfortable night against a Ferencvaros side that lost their Europa League opener at Anderlecht.

Tottenham Hotspur 3-1

Reason for tip

Spurs have scored exactly three goals in each of their last three games and should exploit the spaces that develop in the second half to grab a similar number in this contest. Ferencvaros drew 2-2 with a much-weakened West Ham side that were a few weeks behind in terms of fitness in pre-season, so an away win of around 3-1 could be the outcome.

Ferencvarosi TC vs Tottenham Hotspur Predictions

  • Tottenham have covered a -1 handicap in each of their last three matches
  • Ferencvaros lost their Europa League opener at Anderlecht
  • Spurs have scored three goals in each of their last three games

Tottenham to take the points with a bit to spare

Ferencvaros face a tough task in stopping in-form Tottenham when the two sides meet in the Europa League at Groupama Arena in Budapest on Thursday. The Hungarian champions lost their opening League stage game 2-1 to Anderlecht and cannot afford to lose too many more if they want to make it into the knockout rounds.

Pascal Jansen’s side dominate their domestic scene and, on Sunday, enjoyed a 3-0 home win over Puskas Academy to go three points clear of them at the top of the table with a game in hand.

Fradi are solid at the back and have some talented and hard-working players in attack, but Spurs should be able to take advantage of the space that usually develops in the second halves of their games when the midfielders begin to run out of steam. In pre-season, Ferencvaros played a much-weakened West Ham side that were a few weeks behind in terms of fitness and were pegged back to a 2-2 draw.

Johnson and Solanke good for the goals

Backing Tottenham, who spanked Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday, to win after an even first-half could be a play here but there is enough confidence in the Spurs camp to cover a -1 handicap as well.

Ange Postecoglu’s side have answered the critics that were out in force after the North London derby by registering four consecutive wins and scoring 11 goals in the process.  The Australian coach may make a few changes for this clash with the likes of Yves Bissouma, Pape Sarr and Archie Gray recalled, but there will be enough quality there to ensure a comfortable away win.

Brennan Johnson and Dominic Solanke are in good goalscoring form and both of them started Spurs’ 3-0 win over Qarabag in this competition last week. Another three-goal performance is well within Tottenham’s compass here, although a goal for the home side cannot be ruled out given their current state of confidence.
