Feyenoord -1

Reason for tip

Feyenoord have won two of their last four home Champions League games by two clear goals and are coming off a 3-1 win at Benfica in their last European game. They can see off a Salzburg side that have lost their three European games this season 4-0, 3-0 and 2-0 with a bit to spare.

Feyenoord 2-0

Reason for tip

Salzburg have failed to score in seven of their last 11 games in all competitions and may struggle to put one past a Feyenoord side that have been string at home of late, winning three of their last four games with at least two goals in each of those victories. Hence, a 2-0 correct score play is preferred.

Missing midfielders make Red Bulls’ job tougher

Red Bull Salzburg’s disastrous Champions League campaign could get worse on Wednesday night when Pepijn Lijnders’ troubled team take on Feyenoord in Rotterdam. This would have been a fixture the Austrians would have fancied to perhaps win when the fixtures came out, but three successive defeats without scoring have knocked the confidence of the Red Bulls.

The visitors will also be without several key players for this trip to the Netherlands with right-back Amar Dedic unlikely to return and doubts persisting over a quartet of midfielders who missed training on Monday.

Maurits Kjærgaard and Lucas Gourna-Douath have had ankle injuries recently while Stefan Bajcetic and Mads Bidstrup appear to have both suffered an untimely gastrointestinal infection.

Feyenoord fancied to win with a bit to spare

It will leave Lijnders short of options in a key area that Feyenoord could dominate at home. The Dutch side were picked off by a clever Ajax side in the Eredivisie last week, but returned to winning ways with a come-from-behind success over AZ on Saturday.

Feyenoord have lost just twice in their 15 contests this term with eight wins and five draws. That kind of momentum suggest they can see off the challenge of a depleted Salzburg side and the -1 handicap is a tempting place to head in this scenario.

De club aan de Maas won two of their three home group games by more than a goal last season and all three of Salzburg’s matches in this competition have been one-sided enough for the -1q to and in favour of their opponents.
